Born in Udine, Silvia Giordano is a choreographer, director and author. She trained as a dancer at Accademia Internazionale Coreutica and Balletto di Toscana in Florence. She continued her studies in London (The Place) and in Paris (CND and Menagérie de Verre) and she graduated cum laude in the master of Choreography from CODARTS University of the Arts and Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts in The Netherlands.
In 2020 she won the international call for young choreographers at the Venice Biennale (Italy) under the direction of Marie Chouinard. In 2021 she was awarded with the Theodor Rawyler Prize and she has been invited to present her research “The emerging sense: practicing intuition in the choreographic practice” at the Codarts Research Festival in Rotterdam. Her last works include “Fresh oranges into the ocean”, “Well, I think of conducting”, “From her youth she loved”, “How can you float without sinking?”, “A noisy self”, 2Long necks and soft bundles” and were pesented in different festivals such as Bolzano Danza festival, La Mama-Festival dei due Mondi in Spoleto, Teatro Carcano, Teatro Gerolamo, Tendance Festival, Theatre de Noueworst, Video Sound Art.
Alongside the dance field, she is also active within the opera sector: her works have been staged at Opéra de Montecarlo, Teatro comunale di Bologna, Festival Bolzano Danza, Biennale di Venezia, Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Guangzhou Opera House, Teatro La Fenice of Venice, Teatro Real in Madrid and Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville. As assistant director she has been working at Opéra of Tours, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro Goldoni di Livorno, Teatro Coccia di Novara and Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. Her first short film “Fresh oranges into the ocean” was awarded internationally as best dance short film and was screened on Sky Classica HD.
She holds professional workshops as guest teaching author and choreographer in Italy and Europe while she continues presenting her works to various festivals and theaters internationally.
Alongside her artistic career she has been active in the field of cultural management, policy and communication. She holds a Phd in Management of culture from IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca and she has been visiting fellow at Paris Sorbonne and at NCPA in Beijing. From 2016 to 2017 she collaborated with the dance direction at Festival Fabbrica Europa for Contemporary Arts in Florence and she is a registered contributor journalist specialized in in feature and cultural economics domain. She has been invited as speaker, among others, at the Opera Europa Annual Conference in Paris, at Paris Sorbonne, at Aimac and Euram General Conferences and at the Association of Cultural Management in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. She has been chief for economic development and tourism at the Municipality of Florence and she collaborated on the capacity building program for “Italian Capital of Culture 2024” promoted by FSBAC and the Cultural Ministry.
Since 2023 she serves as an Expert for the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA) of the European Commission and she is a guest lecturer at the Master in Performing Arts Organization at Palazzo Spinelli in Florence. She is also active in the organization and promotion of cultural events and in 2023 she funded La Cap|Re-hub, a thought and movement aggregator in Tuscany.
